The plugin that lets you talk to anyone, even if you don't know their language
For the Discord app on Windows, macOS and Linux. It translates with the AI model you choose and keeps the way you write.

Machine translation is made for prose. Chat is lower case and unfinished, it runs on kaomoji, and a missing full stop is doing work. Most translators tidy all of that away. AI Translate leaves it alone.
hooray, tomorrow is finally a day off :)
A capital letter and a full stop appeared, and the smiley is gone
Sounds the way you write
Auto-translation is switched on chat by chat. Right-click the translate button in the chat bar to switch the current chat, left-click it to open the panel.
Right-click any message and translate it into your language.
For a message that a translation alone does not make clear: chat shorthand, a regional word, an inside joke. It names the language, spells the abbreviations out and says what was meant.
Put a word or phrase between two backslashes and it goes out exactly as you typed it. Code in backticks is never translated.
Your own messages can keep the original underneath, visible only to you. It is off until you switch it on in the settings.
The last few messages go with each request. After "how did you like the film?" your short "not really" comes out as "i didn't really like it", not as two words on their own.
Words that are never translated, terms with one fixed translation, your grammatical gender and whether to address people formally.
When the main provider is overloaded, out of quota or refuses the request, the translation quietly goes through the other one.

The plugin shows its interface in the same language as your Discord. You can pick another one in the settings.
Groq, Gemini and GLM have free tiers, so translating costs nothing.
You bring your own API key, and it stays yours. The plugin has no server of its own and never sees anyone else's key.
| Provider | Free tier |
|---|---|
| Groq | Yes, recommended |
| Google Gemini | Yes |
| Z.ai GLM | Yes, and it works where the other two are blocked |
| Anthropic Claude | No |
| Any OpenAI-compatible API | Depends on the provider |
Requests are made from Discord's background process, so your key never enters the part of Discord that a web page could reach.
AI Translate runs inside Vencord, a well-known mod for the Discord app. One command downloads Vencord with AI Translate already inside, about a megabyte, and patches Discord. Nothing is built on your computer.
The command runs on a computer: open this page there to copy it.
Open Windows Terminal or PowerShell.
Paste this command and press Enter.

Pick Install or update with the arrow keys and press Enter. When it asks which Discord to patch, pick the one you use.
The command closes Discord before patching it.
Start Discord again.
Open Settings›Vencord›Plugins›AI Translate, choose a provider and paste your key.
Open Terminal.
Paste this command and press Enter.
sh -c "$(curl -fsSL https://gitlab.com/oi_mozumi/ai-translate/-/raw/main/install/ait.sh)"
Pick Install or update with the arrow keys and press Enter. When it asks which Discord to patch, pick the one you use.
Quit Discord and start it again.
Open Settings›Vencord›Plugins›AI Translate, choose a provider and paste your key.
Open a terminal.

Atomic systems (Bazzite, Silverblue, SteamOS) need Discord installed as a Flatpak. Nothing goes into the system itself: everything stays in your home folder, and the installer opens that folder to the Flatpak for you. A Discord baked into the system image with rpm-ostree cannot be patched, because its folders are read-only.
Pick Install or update with the arrow keys and press Enter. When it asks which Discord to patch, pick the one you use.
It may ask for your password, because Discord usually sits where only an administrator can write.
Quit Discord and start it again.
Open Settings›Vencord›Plugins›AI Translate, choose a provider and paste your key.
AI Translate looks for a new version by itself and installs it in the background. Check for updates, at the bottom of its settings, does the same at once.
Run the same command and pick Remove. Discord goes back to exactly how it was, and your settings stay in case you install again.
Yes. The plugin is free and open source. Translation goes through your provider's API, and Groq, Gemini and GLM have free tiers.
Vencord's own FAQ says that client mods are against Discord's Terms of Service, but there are no known cases of people banned for using them. The patch only swaps Discord's startup file; your account, settings and messages are not touched.
In Vencord's settings on your computer. It is sent only to the provider you chose.
Run the install command again. It repairs the installation without losing your settings.
Not yet. For now it works in the Discord app on Windows, macOS and Linux.
The envelope at the top of the plugin's settings opens a form for bug reports and requests, screenshots included. You can also write on the support server.
